Marcos Machado

About

Marcos Machado is an Assistant Professor in Business and Information Systems at the Industrial Engineering and Business Information Systems (IEBIS) department section of the University of Twente. His current research interests are focused on the applications of machine learning algorithms, data science, and analytics to solve business problems. He received his Ph.D. in Modelling and Computational Science from the Ontario Tech University (Canada), and he holds a MSc in Production Engineering from the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil) and a BSc in Mathematics from the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Ceara (Brazil). He also has over seven years of experience working in the Brazilian and Canadian banking industries.

Key Achievements and Outputs

Marcos has distinguished himself through several notable achievements since completing his PhD. In 2022, he was honored with the award for the best PhD thesis from the Business and IT Faculty, marking a significant milestone in his academic journey. Beyond this accolade, Marcos has demonstrated a proactive involvement in research and development projects, contributing to grant proposals that secured funding from the European Union, including the MSCA-DN DIGITAL and IS2H4C projects. Furthermore, his research endeavors are supported by a starter research grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), underscoring his potential and the confidence in his work. Marcos is also at the forefront of fostering collaboration between academia and the industry; he co-leads the kick start ai initiative, a partnership between ING and the University of Twente, aimed at integrating AI solutions into banking operations, showcasing his commitment to applying academic insights to real-world challenges.
