University of Calabria

General Description

The University of Calabria (Unical), founded in 1968, is Italy’s largest residential campus and a key driver of cultural, social, and economic growth in the region. Its motto, “Campus for Excellence”, reflects its mission to foster knowledge, education, and innovation. Spread over 200 hectares with more than 350,000 m² of facilities, the campus hosts 14 Departments, over 200 lecture halls, laboratories, libraries, theaters, student residences, sports facilities, and research centers. Unical offers around 80 degree programs, including 15 in English, as well as PhDs, master’s courses, and specialist schools, serving a large international student community. Research is supported by advanced labs, interdepartmental infrastructures, and is enhanced through patents, spin-offs, startups, and the TechNest incubator. Beyond academics, the campus is also a cultural and social hub, with museums, theaters, cinemas, a language center, and extensive library facilities.
