About the event

Topic of the program

This training school provides PhD students with advanced, hands-on training at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and digital finance. A key component of the program is the integration of modern computational tools (using Python and R) with financial applications, where participants learn to build, test, and critically evaluate machine learning models for financial markets.

The course places a strong emphasis on practice, featuring real-world use cases, interactive coding sessions, and the step-by-step deconstruction and replication of seminal ML-in-finance research papers.

In addition to technical and algorithmic foundations, the program addresses the legal and commercial dimensions of technological innovation through a dedicated module on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), software protection, and patenting in the FinTech sector.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the program, participants will:

·       Develop and implement machine learning models and advanced algorithms to solve real-world financial problems using Python and R.

·       Critically deconstruct and replicate seminal empirical research by analyzing published machine learning studies and their associated codebases.

·       Process and analyze complex financial datasets, applying rigorous techniques for data handling, modeling, and evaluation.

·       Navigate the legal landscape of financial technologies, understanding Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), software protection, and patenting strategies in the FinTech sector.

·       Translate advanced data-driven insights into actionable strategies for financial decision-making and academic research.

Credit Outcomes

  • Introduction to AI for Financial Applications (4EC)

  • Intellectual Property Rights and Patenting (1EC)
