General Description

Humboldt University of Berlin is a leading university in Germany with excellency status and thriving moves towards digitalization. Block Research Centre (BRC) was created in 2021 jointly with University of Zürich, University of Bucharest as a science and research hub for blockchain data analytics, machine learning and digital assets analysis. Research: Digital Finance platforms attract young and often inexperienced market players, often driven by a sentiment or emotion-based investor behaviour. This requires careful analysis of textual and tail event driven sentiment networks. Training: We designed several tailor-made courses, e.g., Multivariate Statistical Analysis (6h), Statistics of Financial Markets (6h), SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timely), Data Analytics (4h), Presentation skill improvements (2h). All of these courses are code based and provide open access usability via and  Industry cooperation: Royalton Partners is an authorised Alternative Investment Fund Manager headquartered and regulated in Luxembourg. It has a close corporation with the Humboldt University of Berlin.


Prof. Wolfgang Karl Härdle (30%) is a professor of Statistics at the Humboldt University of Berlin. He is distinguished for his outstanding leadership in quantitative finance, econometrics and applied statistics. 80 PhD students,  >400 publications in leading journals (incl. The Annals of Statistic, Journal of Econometrics) with > 30000 citations, and h-index of 84. Taught more than  40 doctoral schools, including industry applied training. Role: Supervisory Board member, supervision of ESR 7, WP 4 Lead.


Prof. Dr. Stefan Lessmann (20%) is the Chair of Information Systems at the School of Business and Economics. He has supervised 10 PhD students. He has >100 publications in leading journals with > 5000 citations, and an h-index of 33. Role: Supervisory Board member, supervision of ESR 7.

Dr. Rui Ren (30%) is a postdoc funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship within the EU Horizon 2020 Program on sentiment and network related topics. She has supervised 3 PhD students, 4 journal articles with 172 citations, and an h-index of 4. Role: Contribution to research and training.

How we contribute to the MSCA:

WP 4 Lead. Contribute data on cryptos, P2P markets, NFTs, financial time series as well as theoretical and applied expertise in Digital Finance, econometrics and modern statistics, ML, smart data analytics, decision analytics.
